Join Brandi Harrison, Masterclass-trained IBCLC and DONA-trained doula, as she teaches on how to identify signs and symptoms of oral tethers and support affected families navigating these issues.

This specialized training workshop is designed to provide doulas and birth workers with the essential knowledge and skills necessary to support families navigating breastfeeding challenges related to oral tethers, such as tongue-tie and lip-tie. Oral tethers are common conditions that can significantly impact a baby’s ability to latch and effectively breastfeed. This class will equip birth professionals with the tools to identify signs and symptoms, understand the anatomical and functional impact of these conditions, and provide appropriate guidance to parents, such as referrals to professionals who can assess, diagnose and treat these issues.

Course Highlights:

- Introduction to Breastfeeding and Oral Anatomy : Gain a foundational understanding of breastfeeding mechanics and the role of oral structures in successful feeding.

- Understanding Oral Tethers (Tongue-Tie and Lip-Tie) : Learn the physiological causes, symptoms, and potential impacts of tongue-tie, lip-tie, and other oral restrictions on breastfeeding.

- Early Identification and Screening : Develop the ability to assess and identify signs of oral tethers in newborns, even in the early stages of life, and how to appropriately refer the families you support to proper channels for diagnosis and treatment

- Supporting Parents Through the Diagnosis and Treatment Journey : Learn how to provide compassionate support to families as they navigate the challenges of diagnosis, treatment options (including frenotomy), and post-treatment care, as well and pre and post procedure bodywork for baby.

- Breastfeeding Support Techniques : Explore strategies for improving latch and positioning for babies with oral tethers, and body issues, including alternative feeding methods and exercises to aid in breastfeeding success.

- Collaborating with Healthcare Providers : Understand the importance of working with lactation consultants, pediatricians, and specialists when oral tethers are suspected or diagnosed.

- Practical Tools and Resources : Access a range of resources, including handouts, referral lists, and troubleshooting guides, to further support families through their breastfeeding journey.

This course will provide doulas and birth workers with the confidence to advocate for and assist breastfeeding families affected by oral tethers and infant body issues, ensuring that both parents and babies receive the best possible care and support. Whether you're new to the topic or looking to deepen your knowledge, this class will be a valuable addition to your skill set.
