GUI Basics


Navigating the GUI, panes, window layout and manipluating the 3D view

Working in 3D


Moving, Rotating scaling and translating objects in the 3D viewport. Creating and manipulating objects

Basic Materials


Adding color, roughness reflectivity and more to create shiny, glossy, glassy and metallic objects. Basics of automatic smoothing of polygons/meshes

Mesh Editing


Creating, editing and manipulating your own 3D mesh designs. Learning about vertices and faces, using tools like extrusion to make more complex shapes

Sculpting


Using tools to take low resolution meshes, and derive higher resolution, rounded organic ones - which can then be edited like molding digital clay

Time permitting: Animation


If time permits, we will get a bit into some of the fundamentals and basics of keyframe animation

About this event

This is a beginners course for Blender, a free, 3D, open-source program which is superb for a variety of uses including Mesh modeling (organic shapes), scuplting, animation, rendering, simulation, video editing and more!

We will cover the basics - with an eye on using Inscape to create basic 3D models for 3D printing - with some rendering and animation.

I MPORTANT - Attendees are required to:

  • Bring their own laptop
  • Should have a mouse with a mouse wheel (no trackpads)
  • Blender 4.0 (or later) installed ahead of class (and make sure it works!)

(If you do not have a laptop, one can be provided for you for the class - but you must arrange this ahead of time with the instructor).
