Baltimore, Maryland - Jones Falls Trail

- Smart-guided Bikeway Selfie Tour

A gem of a trail in the heart of Baltimore's historic Jones Falls Valley and a scenic short segment of the growing East Coast Greenway.

This 17-mile bikeway tour will take you through the most scenic segments of the Jones Falls Valley in Baltimore, Maryland. The majority of the route is on the Jones Falls Trail. There are some segments where you share the road with motor vehicles. A midway tasty spot is en route where you can grab a bite, a beverage, or just a rest moment before continuing the tour. There are also several other tasty options in the area.

The route follows the topography of Jones Falls Valley which has a hilly character. There are some segments where you might use your bike's gears, but nothing to work up too much of a sweat. Speaking of sweating - it's optional. You set the pace, starting time, and touring agenda with CycleNuts' expert smart-guided cycle tour pattern.

Along with the adventure of the bike trails several other things make this tour a memorable event. Check out the following points of interest on the route.

Points of Interest:

  • Druid Hill Park - Druid Hill Park is one of the first large public parks in America, and Baltimore’s first large municipal park. It is the third oldest established park in the United States.
  • Jones Falls Trail - The Jones Falls trail is a 10-mile hiking and bicycling trail that runs mostly along the length of its namesake The Jones Falls, a major north-south stream in and north of the city that has long acted as a major transportation corridor for the city.
  • Jones Falls Stream - Beginning as a small stream near Garrison, Maryland, and descending more than 250 feet over its course, Jones Falls traces a path of nearly eighteen miles through the landscape before flowing into the Inner Harbor. Because of its central location near the port and the hydraulic power that it lent to the many mills built along its banks, this waterway played a pivotal role in Baltimore’s growth into a hub of industry.
  • East Coast Greenway - The East Coast Greenway connects 15 states and 450 cities and towns for 3,000 miles from Maine to Florida. We are fostering a safe walking and biking route through the country’s most populated corridor.
  • George Washington Statue - The statue of George Washington, originally commissioned for the Washington Building in downtown Baltimore in 1858, was moved to the Park’s Madison Avenue entrance at Swann Drive in the late 19th century.
  • The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore - The Maryland Zoo, formerly known as the Baltimore Zoo, was created by an act of the Maryland state legislature on April 7, 1876. Its origins in Druid Hill Park date to the early 1860s, well before its formal founding, when the Park Superintendent first began caring for a small collection of animals donated by City residents.
  • Cylburn Mansion and Arboretum - The Cylburn Arboretum was originally the private estate of businessman Jesse Tyson, who started construction of Cylburn Mansion in 1863 as a summer home for himself and his widowed mother. Today Cylburn is Baltimore's largest public garden!
