Scheduled for July 12, 2025, the Aurora Historical Home Tour promises a delightful exploration of four homes, each with its own distinctive charm and historical significance. Among these treasures are five residences on S. Chillicothe and the Ebenezer Sheldon Deed House.

How long does the tour last?

The tour will begin at 1:00 pm and will last for three hours. This will include a self-guided walking tour and stopping at the marked historic houses. The tour will begin and end at the Aurora Historical Society. You will pick up your tour bracelet which will allow you to gain entry to the houses.

Is this a guided tour?

There will be a program identifying homes on the tour, as well as facts about other historical places, such as the Aurora Cemetery. When entering the historic homes, volunteers inside will share stories of the homes.

Is the home accessible for individuals with disabilities?

While the Aurora Historical Society strives to make our home tour accessible to all visitors, there may be some aspects of the historical homes that are not accessible due to grandfathering. Our tour guides are available to assist you.

Can I take photographs during the tour?

We kindly ask that you refrain from photography to preserve the historical artifacts, decor, and privacy of the homeowners. There will be a photographer on site and those pictures will be shared by AHS.

Are children allowed on the tour?

Absolutely! We encourage families to join us. Please ensure that children are supervised at all times and are respectful of the historical artifacts.

Can I touch the artifacts or furnishings?

For the preservation of the home and its contents, we kindly request that visitors refrain from touching artifacts or furnishings. Please observe from a respectful distance.

Are restrooms available during the tour?

Restrooms are available at the Aurora Historical Society (where the tour begins and ends). Please refrain from using homeowner's bathroom, unless an emergency.

Can I bring food or drinks into the home?

To maintain the integrity of the home, we ask that visitors do not bring food or drinks inside the home. Refreshments are available after the tour at the Aurora Historical Society.

Is there parking available?

Parking is available at the Aurora Historical Society (Lower Level of the Aurora Memorial Library). There will also be parking available at 59 S. Chillicothe Rd. and the James Converse Store -SR306/82. Please follow provided signage to park your vehicle conveniently. You may then walk to the homes.

Are pets allowed on the tour?

Unfortunately, pets are not allowed inside the home.

Can I purchase tickets in advance?

Yes, tickets can be purchased in advance online for $25.00 or at the Aurora Historical Society on the day of the event for $30.00.

Will there be a reception for the home tour?

Yes, home tour participants are invited to the Aurora Historical Society between 1-5 PM for a reception, with wine/cheese.
