About this event

  • Event lasts 4 hours

ZGF and KPFF welcome SAME to the Portland International Airport for a presentation by KPFF and ZGF, followed by a site tour of the completed Main Terminal and Phase 2 Construction Areas Tuesday, April 22 from 1-5pm.

The main terminal expansion invites visitors to celebrate the beauty of the Pacific Northwest underneath a new 9-acre, undulating wooden roof made of locally sourced wood.

Instead of building an entirely new terminal, much of PDX’s existing infrastructure was reused. KPFF and ZGF will share some of the challenges this project presented, including the roof installation, seismic upgrades, sustainability goals, and how to modernize and expand the airport while keeping it operational.

Members from the project team, including the client and contractor along with KPFF and ZGF, will be on-hand to answer questions and chat about this exciting project!

Space is currently limited to 30 people. We are hoping to add additional headcount if there are more people interested in attending. Parking will be provided. Directions and information will be sent a couple of days prior to the event.

Chris Pitt, PE, SE, LEED AP

KPFF, Associate

Chris Pitt is an enthusiastic and driven engineer who looks at every project hurdle as an opportunity to develop a creative solution. He has spent the past 9+ years of this 19+ year career leading the structural team on the $2B Portland International Airport Terminal Core Redevelopment (TCORE) project, which opened to the public in August 2024. On TCORE, Chris is structural project manager and leads the design of the long-span mass timber hybrid roof. Chris’s structural engineering philosophy centers on starting from a place of ‘yes’ when presented with a looked-for outcome and then examining the challenge from every angle to determine a design that achieves the vision. For him, there is nothing more rewarding than collaborating with a great team to successfully deliver a project that the team, owner and community can take pride in for generations to come. For the TCORE project, Chris served as the project manager for KPFF and lead the design of the roof structure.
