We are having an optional postcard sketch exchange! If you would like to participate, bring a postcard sized sketch to the sketch crawl. The sketch should be of someplace you find special in your local area, and can be done in any medium. Please add your name, your urban sketching chapter (if you belong to one), and a little bit about your sketch, such as the location, to the back of your postcard. The sketch must follow the urban sketcher's manifesto (i.e. be sketched on location). We'll exchange during happy hour.

Frequently asked questions

Where should I park?

We suggest the large lot one block off of Main St. at the corner of 199-159 Martin St. There is free all-day parking there, and that way we don't fill up parking spaces for businesses on Main Street. Once you park, it's a short walk to our event headquarters at 108 East Main Street.

What if it rains?

We have indoor locations for sketching in case of rainy weather.

What is urban sketching?

An urban sketch is a drawing created on location, indoors or out, capturing what the sketcher sees from direct observation. Urban sketchers use any kind of media to tell the story of their surroundings, the places they live, and where they travel. https://urbansketchers.org/

What is a sketch crawl?

A sketch crawl is a group of sketchers who gather in a city or town to sketch from observation. There are no rules on what to sketch. It could be buildings, alleys, landscapes, cafes, people, cars, events, etc. At the end of the event, we have a "throw down", where sketchers share their sketches.

I'm a beginner. Can I come?

We welcome all levels of sketchers, from beginners to advanced sketchers.

What should I bring?

Bring whatever supplies you like to sketch with, such as a sketchbook, pens, pencils, watercolor, etc. You may want to bring a lightweight folding chair to sit on for outdoor sketch locations. A hat, sunscreen, and water are also recommended. Bring $ for lunch and snacks.
