Each day combines theory and hands-on practice. Your morning begins with an engaging roundtable discussion, followed by group training sessions where you'll learn foundation skills, relaxation techniques, and body control exercises. After lunch prepared by chef Alexis deBoschnek, you'll receive focused attention during individual and semi-private sessions to refine your skills.

Whether you're new to liberty work or continuing from our previous clinic, this program teaches you how to create a language where your horse seeks to be a part of the conversation. Through clear communication and attunement skills, you'll build confidence and trust with your horse.

Participant spots are limited to 9 per day to ensure quality instruction. Auditors are welcome and will gain valuable insights from observing all sessions. The facility offers indoor arena, a comfortable tack room for instruction and stabling options for participants bringing horses.

Key Takeaways:

  • Foundation skills and relaxation techniques
  • Body control and clear communication cues
  • Positive reinforcement (R+) training
  • Individual attention and personalized feedback
  • Progress toward liberty work goals

Previous participants will build upon established skills while newcomers will discover the fundamentals of liberty training in a supportive environment.

Frequently asked questions

What is liberty training?

Liberty training involves working with our horses without a halter and lead-rope, giving our horses the freedom to choose to be a willing partner. We build a common language with our horses through training, where connection and cues combine, creating a seamless conversation.

Do I need prior liberty experience?

No. This clinic welcomes all experience levels. Whether you're new to liberty work or attended our previous clinic, the program is tailored to your skill level.

Can I stable my horse overnight?

Yes. Stalls are available for $25/day and include shavings. You must bring your own hay and grain.

What time should I arrive?

Plan to arrive by 8:30 AM to settle in before the 9:00 AM start time. If you are trailering horses please arrive by 8:00AM or coordinate with us by emailing clinic@westwindicelandics.com

What's the difference between participating and auditing?

Participants work directly with their horses in both group and individual sessions. Auditors observe all sessions and participate in discussions but don't bring horses.

What if I have dietary restrictions?

Please note any dietary restrictions during registration, and we'll accommodate them.
